Social Location:
I am a queer white woman and cisgender ally to the transgender and gender diverse community. I am a person in recovery from an eating disorder, and an advocate for improving access to eating disorder treatment for members of marginalized communities.
Summary of Clinical Experience:
As the Clinical Coordinator at Bucks Support Services in Newtown, PA, I maintain a busy private practice and assist with the development of providers specializing in:
-
Eating disorders
-
LGBTQ+ identities
-
Trauma recovery
-
Substance use
I take an eclectic approach to therapy, matching resources and interventions to the specific needs of individual clients. This includes following a strengths-based model that draws upon the intersectional identities of the client and the multitude of systems impacting their experience.
My colleagues and I noticed the unique needs of gender diverse clients with eating disorders, including the combined clinical presentation of gender dysphoria, eating disorder, trauma, and other co-occurring conditions. We noted the challenges that our clients faced when seeking trans-competent eating disorder providers and treatment across all levels of care. As a result, my colleague, Heidi Dalzell, PsyD, CEDS, and I developed a resource assisting providers working with similar clients: A Clinician's Guide to Gender Identity and Body Image: Practical Support for Working with Transgender and Non-Binary Clients.
